Pawmanity Deluxe Hammock: The Heavy-Duty Fortress

A brown Miniature American Shepherd with fluffy ears tilts his head curiously toward the camera. He is sitting inside a black Pawmanity Deluxe Hammock with a mesh viewing window, looking over the back of the front passenger seat.

When I was searching for the right car-seat protection, I looked at so many different options. Being European, I have always appreciated good craftsmanship and items that are actually built to last. I much rather invest in quality than keep replacing flimsy ones. The Pawmanity Deluxe Hammock really stood out to me for that reason, it looked well-made, and the clever, thoughtful design caught my attention from the start.

I managed to score mine secondhand “as new,” which was lucky as they are definitely an investment if bought new. It has been in my husband’s car for over three years now and still looks great, which says a lot about the quality. Since I bought ours, I have noticed other designs like Ruff N Roam with their hard-bottom extenders. I think that is a very clever feature, especially for heavier dogs who need that extra stability. I have also seen Indie Boho, which offers some beautiful pops of colour and boosters that look very similar to the ones Monte loves. However, while their boosters seem great, I am not 100% sure their hammocks would be as heavy-duty or durable as my Pawmanity or the Ruff N Roam versions. If you have a dog that is a bit rougher on gear, that’s definitely something to consider.

The “Single Clip” Door entry. The real game-changer for me was the door entry design. While brands like Indie Boho also have zip-up side covers to protect your seat and door, the Pawmanity design just seems easier to live with.

It uses one fixed strap that you attach to the car’s roof handle and release with a single clip. Other brands often use 2-point anchors that can get a bit tangled and messy. This one keeps the side wall held up perfectly and is easy to release and snap back into place. When you unzip the door protector, the flap drops down to seamlessly protect your car seat and door-trim from scratches when Monte hops in and out. It is those little details that make a product feel superior.

The “Diamond” Trade-Off. – The diamond stitching gives it a nice finish and extra grip for Monte, but it does have a drawback: it’s a bit of a mission to hoover. Sand and hair love to get caught in those stitched crevices.

To keep it from getting that “funky dog smell,” we go to the car wash to hoover it regularly. Every so often on a hot day, I will take it out for a good wipe-down and a spritz with a dog odour eliminator. It has stayed fresh for three years + with that routine, but it is something to keep in mind if you hate vacuuming!

If Monte wasn’t a “Mini,” this would have ticked every box. But because he needs to see the road and wants to know exactly where he is going, a standard hammock, even a deluxe one, meant he was sitting too low.

We found a secondhand Lookout Booster Seat for $40 on Gumtree and popped it inside the hammock. You don’t need a fancy brand for this; any sturdy, cheaper booster seat will do the trick!

This gave him the height he wanted while keeping the car 100% protected from fur and dirt.

  • Thoughtful Craftsmanship: Heavy-duty materials that don’t fray or wear down over years of use.
  • The “Cooling” Mesh: It features a high-quality mesh window that is still in perfect condition after 3 years. Monte absolutely loves lying in front of it to enjoy the blast of the air-con on a hot day.
  • Hassle-Free Entry: The single-clip design is much simpler and more intuitive than other 2-point straps.
  • The Full Setup: For us, this only works because of the booster hack, it gives Monte the “view from the top” while the hammock keeps the sand and mud off the upholstery.

If you have a larger dog or a pup happy to snooze, this is a beautiful, high-quality piece of gear. It is quite heavy, so it’s not the “quick switch” between cars, once it’s in, it stays put. For a small adventurous breed like Monte, it is a “Fair Enough” a great protector, but you will definitely need the hack to make them truly happy.

Full Disclosure: Not sponsored. I sourced this secondhand in 2022 to protect our car and keep Monte safe. It is an investment, but if you can find one “as new,” it’s a solid piece of gear.

I am curious – Does your dog value the view as much as Monte does, or are they happy to just snooze in a hammock? I would love to know if you have found a clever way to give them the best of both worlds. Drop a comment below!
