Modern Pets Elevated Dog Car Seat: The Room With A View
Battle-Tested: Modern Pets Elevated Dog Car Seat (Grey | Large)
Monte’s Verdict 🐾: [ THE CUT ]
The Raw Truth
Back in 2022, I was stuck in a cycle of “car seat musical chairs.” We started with a traditional hammock (Pawmanity Deluxe Hammock) across the back bench. However, Monte was too low to see out, which made him restless and even car sick. I then tried their smaller premium booster seat for the front seat (found it like new/second-hand!), but he still tried to prop himself up on my dashboard to see out the front. As much as I loved having him right next to me, it was so distracting and felt unsafe.
I actually ended up repurposing that small one as a travel bed because it folds up like a picnic blanket. However, for the car, it just wasn’t the right fit for us. That is when I finally moved him to the Modern Pets Double Booster Bench (now called the Elevated Dog Car Seat), and I haven’t looked back.
WHY IT IS A WINNER:
- The “True” Booster: Unlike some seats that are just a fluffy cushion, this actually has a structural, elevated base. Monte sits higher up and can see clearly out the side windows. He can also see straight through the middle of the car out the front windscreen. It’s the perfect “throne” for a dog who needs to see where he’s going. We used this setup for a 10-hour drive to QLD. Monte was completely happy the entire way. That is saying a lot!
- Best of Both Worlds: Comfort and Height. When he is feeling nosy, he has the height to watch the road. But if a run in the field has “exhausted” him, the bench is deep enough that he can still lie down comfortably for a snooze.
- Space Saving Design: Even though it is a double bench, I can still comfortably fit a human passenger in the back with him. The full-width hammock made that impossible.
- Durability: It has been in the car since 2022 and is still in perfect condition in 2026. It anchors securely via the seat belt and headrest. I did have to replace the security leads after Monte had a cheeky nibble on them as a puppy.
- The Clean Factor: It is great for containing the dog hair and dirt. The inner liners are reversible and the whole thing is washable. My go-to hack: I wrap the bottom cushion in a small dog blanket. It is so much easier to just pull the blanket out for a quick wash without having to take the whole seat apart!
The Bottom Line
At just shy of $200 (it’s gone up about $20 since I got mine), it is definitely an investment. But for the peace of mind that Monte is safe and comfortable, it has been worth every cent. He actually enjoys the ride now instead of feeling restless.
Full Disclosure: Not sponsored. I bought this seat and other items from Modern Pets in 2022. I am sharing this because it is a setup that finally worked for us and has genuinely stood the test of time.
What was the very first piece of gear you bought for your dog? Did it last through the “puppy chaos” like Monte’s car seat, or did you have to upgrade within the first six months? I would love to know which brands have survived your adventures!
Tell me your go-to car safety or travel brands in the comments, I am always looking for durable gear to add to Monte’s wishlist!
