Paws and Claws ‘Fetch Flyer’: A Toss, a Miss, and a Backyard Hack
Battle-Tested: The Paws and Claws ‘Fetch Flyer’
Monte’s Verdict 🐾: [ FAIR ENOUGH ]
The Raw Truth
Conceptually, a 2-in-1 ball and flyer sounds like a genius space-saver for the park. However, in reality, the execution just misses the mark. As a fetch toy, this one unfortunately failed our test.
The ball it comes with is just a standard tennis ball. This is a no-go for us, as the abrasive felt can actually wear down a dog’s teeth over time. Even after I swapped it for a Chuckit! ball, the outer ‘Flyer’ remained the dealbreaker. It is made of a heavy rubber, and the shape makes it feel risky for Monte to catch mid-flight. I actually nearly hit him on the head with it because it is so clunky. Beyond the safety worry, it is just plain awkward to carry in a standard walking bag.
THE MonteCaro “BACKYARD”HACK
While it is not a great frisbee, it turned out to be a fantastic “quiet time” toy!
Instead of fetching, Monte repurposed the flyer into a “Retrieve and Chew.” The material is very similar to the rubber toys he used during his teething days. He clearly still finds that texture satisfying.
Monte also treated it like a puzzle! He spent ages trying to figure out how to set the squeaker ball free from the center. What started as a failed fetch session turned into a great brain teaser.
The Bottom Line
Credit where it is due: the rubber used for the outer flyer is genuinely tough. If you have a large dog that needs heavy-duty material, this might work for you. For Monte, it is just too impractical and risky for a mid-sized dog who loves to jump and catch things mid-air.
If you want a winner from this brand, skip the flyer and grab their Tug of War toy instead – that is the one that actually made “THE CUT.”
Full Disclosure: Not sponsored. I bought this with my own money because I’m always on the hunt for clever gear, and I’m sharing our honest experience to help you decide what’s actually worth your bag space!
I really wanted to love the idea of a 2-in-1, but sometimes the “all-rounder” just doesn’t do either job well.
Now, I have to know – have you ever bought a “clever” pet gadget that turned out to be a total dud? Or do you have a go-to frisbee that has actually survived more than one trip to the park?
Drop a comment below and let us know your best (or worst) toy finds. Monte and I are all ears!
