Kong Halloween Wubba Ballistic Pumpkin: Built for Tug and Fetch
Battle-Tested: Kong Wubba Ballistic Pumpkin

Monte’s Verdict 🐾: [THE CUT]
With Halloween just around the corner, it feels like the right time to finally share our thoughts on this one.
Every time I visit family back home in Austria, I get a little gift (or two) for Monte. Back in May, alongside his Non-Stop harness, I picked up the Kong Wubba Ballistic Pumpkin.
It is no secret that I am a fan of Kong, their toy quality is second to none. I don’t mind spending the extra Euro for things that I know will stand up to the level of play they are intended for.
Monte loves his cheap and cheerful Bunnings latex squeaky toys for harmless indoor play. But for backyard fetch and tug, heavy-duty quality is a must.
Nearly six months in, this pumpkin is still in excellent nick. If I hadn’t gotten distracted by the garden hose and let Monte nibble too long, both fabric leaves would be intact (one sadly became a casualty). Other than that little gardening mishap, the material is extremely tough.
Size, Weight, and Play Style
As a Miniature American Shepherd, Monte can still comfortably get the larger ball in his mouth for a proper squeak. I was initially a little unsure about the size and weight of it, and I would think it might be a bit too bulky for an even smaller dog. Due to its durability, it is definitely on the heavier side for a toy.
Monte loves pulling on the long tails at the end and, of course, giving the squeaker a good workout whenever he gets the chance. Call me overprotective, but as much as I love watching him give it a good thrashing, I am always a bit worried those long tails will swing back and catch him in the eyes. Because of that, we mostly keep play supervised.
The tails also make it handy for flinging it across the yard. The bright, vibrant colour is easy to spot at the park, though it has remained a backyard toy for us. That comes down to its generous size, and the fact that Monte still adores his good old traditional Chuckit! ball, which he never ever goes anywhere without.
The Details That Matter
- The Squeaker: It features one internal squeaker, which is a non-negotiable for Monte. While the squeak thankfully isn’t ear-deafening, he still manages a stellar effort with his bum up in the air.
- Maintenance: It is remarkably easy to clean, fairly dirt-resistant, and dries quickly if it needs a wash to keep it fresh.
- Supervised Play: I generally never let Monte just sit and mindlessly chew away on a play toy, as that is not what they are designed for. Even with a watchful eye, I have found that the quality of Kong toys makes them much more forgiving than some other brands, especially if you still have a dog that likes to occasionally test boundaries with their teeth.
Monte’s Verdict
On sale, these are quite reasonable, but they are well worth the money either way. If you want a tough, engaging fetch-and-tug toy that holds up well past Halloween, the Wubba Ballistic Pumpkin gets a firm paws-up from us.
Full Disclosure: Not sponsored. I bought this with my own money because I am always on the hunt for durable additions to our toy rotation, and I am sharing our real-world experience to help you decide what is actually worth adding to your collection!
