Monte’s Verdict 🐾: [ THE CUT ]

While our go-to Rogz Utility Explore harness has served us brilliantly for years, my quest for practical gear always leads me to explore new brands when I travel overseas.

Whenever I am away, I love stopping by my favourite pet store in Hard, WAUA MIAUA, to see what I can bring back for Monte.

This particular Y-shape model looked significantly longer than what we are used to, giving me real reservations.

Buying a high-end item without him there to try it on, with no option to exchange, was a bit of a gamble.

Thankfully, the guy working there was really helpful. After I explained my main challenge regarding our go-to Rogz harness holding moisture and drying too slowly, he spoke so highly of this brand and its smart design and fit that I decided to get it for Monte.

Shopping for dog items without Monte by my side is always nerve-wracking. This particular model is an over-the-head harness from a renowned Norwegian brand. Unlike many standard designs, this version can only be adjusted around the chest area rather than the head section.

I was really torn on whether I should get it. However, he recommended this particular model above all other brands he offered. It is specifically tailored for active breeds and outdoor lifestyles. The ergonomic Y-shape cut and style are designed to keep shoulder movement completely unrestricted.

What really sold me was his guarantee regarding the material. It features closed-cell foam padding and specialised nylon strips that prevent water from soaking up, ensuring it is super fast-drying.
Moisture retention has always been my main challenge with past harnesses, as they tend to hold dampness and develop a smell easily. Convinced by his expertise, I took the plunge and bought the Line Harness 5.0 in green. Since Monte fell between sizes, I opted for a size 5 following his recommendation.

The harness felt surprisingly lightweight. It is evident that a lot of thought has gone into the design. For instance, while there is stitching on the inside, it is finished in such a clever, smooth way that there are no rough seams to cause chafing or rubbing against his skin. I will admit, that long middle section looked a little awkward at first. I genuinely wondered if it would end up being a stiff, rigid fit on a small dog like Monte. However, it form-fits his chest nicely without looking everbearing.

I am happy to report that the shop assistant got the size completely right. Monte took to the harness immediately, and because of the smooth head opening, he does not mind putting it on or taking it off at all. That is a massive win in our daily routine.

The side straps are quite long, so I had to loop them back a bit after adjusting the fit. I suppose I could trim and seal them, but I haven’t bothered since tucking them away works just fine.
I did need to adjust the fit a couple of times in the beginning as one of his legs somehow slipped out of the Y-shape, something I am yet to understand how it even happened. However, after tightening the fit slightly, it did not happen again.

From size 3 upwards, this model includes a third attachment loop at the front featuring a lightweight aluminium D-ring. While it can be used for a leash, I actually found it to be the perfect spot to attach his ID tag.
Alongside that sits a small loop at the bottom designed to attach a long line. However, because Monte is a Mini, the harness sits further down his torso. This meant the lower loop stuck out at an awkward, rigid angle. It occasionally ‘rubbed against him‘ or got caught when he weed. To be fair, this is not a design flaw. It is simply due to Monte being a Mini, which does make getting the fit right a little more tricky at times.

That awkward angle and friction bothered me on his behalf, so I simply cut it off. Once removed, the fit became absolute perfection.
Since the harness still has other options for attaching a leash or long line, losing that bottom loop didn’t impact functionality at all. No regrets there.

I have been using this harness on a daily basis for the past six months, and it still looks brand new. While the outer material is not strictly water-resistant and does get damp on the surface during wet walks, it behaves true to its word. The inner closed-cell foam does not soak up water like a sponge. It cleans easily and dries extremely quickly, leaving us with zero lingering damp odours.

However, after months of real-world testing, I have realised that I personally miss having a grip or handle. This particular style does not feature a top grab handle, and I have really missed this feature when going for hikes as it is super convenient for helping Monte over obstacles. Something I have come to love and value with our Rogz harness. Because of this, I will check out the Line Harness Grip WD (the working dog version with the integrated handle) when I fly home next!

The Non-Stop Dogwear Line Harness 5.0 has proven to be an exceptional find. It ticks all the boxes for ergonomic movement and fast-drying trail adventures without lingering damp odours. I have absolutely no regrets taking a chance on it in Austria.

If you are thinking of trying one out for yourself, their official website features a fantastic interactive sizing calculator. It helps you get the measurements right.
Best of all, they offer global shipping, making it easy to order no matter where in the world your trail adventures take you.
